Vocational astrology reads in the chart how you tend to work and what drives you. The KP method takes that reading to the calendar: it shows when each career move has an open path. Leaving, starting, moving up and earning more are four events, each with its own timing. The profile stays in the background, and the timing guides the decision.
This order changes the question. Instead of "what is the right profession for me?", you ask "what is the next step and when does it have the best chance of working out?"
The profile as background
The chart describes tendencies: whether you do better with autonomy or in a team, whether you like to go deep on one subject or handle many fronts, the kind of problem that holds your attention. In Vedic astrology, the 10th house is the house of profession, and the whole chart sets the tone for how you work.
One trait fits many professions. Communication shows up in teaching, sales, journalism, customer service and management. Autonomy can mean starting a business or leading an area with freedom inside a company.
That is why the profile is most useful when it becomes a concrete question:
- What kind of problem do you like to work on?
- Do you prefer to build, investigate, care for or organize?
- What do you do well without effort that other people ask you for?
The answers sketch the direction. KP comes in to say when to take each step along it.
The four career moves in KP
KP (Krishnamurti Paddhati) is the method of the Indian astrologer K. S. Krishnamurti. It reads each matter through a set of houses and their significators, the planets connected to those houses by their position and by the star they are in. In career matters, this splits what looks like a single thing into four events:
| Move | What the method examines |
|---|---|
| Starting a job | Houses 2, 6 and 10, income, daily service and profession (KP Reader VI, p. 275) |
| Leaving where you are | Houses 1, 5, 9 and 12, which the book gives for the end of service (KP Reader III, p. 381) |
| Moving up | Houses 2, 6, 10 and 11 (KP Reader III, p. 371) |
| Earning more | The money the work brings, in its own reading |
Each move has its own window. The chart may favor starting a new job in a year when the period for leaving the current one has not arrived yet. It may favor a promotion in one period and a jump in income in another. Reading the four separately shows which step the moment supports.
For changing fields, Krishnamurti points to another group: houses 3, 9 and 12 indicate change (K. S. Krishnamurti, KP Reader III, p. 347).
The timing: dasha and bhukti
KP uses the Vimshottari period system. The dasha is the major period, which lasts years. The bhukti is the sub-period within it, which lasts months. Each is ruled by a planet, and the event happens when the active periods are ruled by significators of the matter, with the transit confirming (K. S. Krishnamurti, KP Reader VI, p. 186).
In Vedik's free reading, the "Your planetary cycles" section shows your dasha and your bhukti. The phase pages explain what each ruling planet tends to bring.
From profile to concrete step
Suppose your chart highlights communication and autonomy, and the period favors starting something new. A small step before the leap gives valuable information: leading a presentation, talking to someone in the field you want, taking on a short project.
Then look at the work as you lived it. Did you like the problem itself? Did the routine suit you? When the profile and the timing point in the same direction and the experience confirms it, the bigger step becomes safer.
If the period favors moving up where you are, the move changes. Maybe the next step is asking for a more visible project, without switching companies. The same profile calls for different actions in different phases.
One decision at a time
A career is a sequence of decisions. Each one calls for its own reading, and the good question is specific: "does the period until June favor leaving my current job?" gets more out of the chart than "what is my calling?"
The chart shows what the method indicates for your moment. The last word is always yours.
