Vedic astrology, also called Jyotisha, is the astrological tradition of India. To start, you need three pieces of birth data (date, time and city) and an order of reading. This guide shows that order in six steps, each with the article that goes deeper into the subject.
1. Understand what Vedic astrology is
It uses the sidereal zodiac, tied to the fixed stars, and reads life in time cycles. The first step is knowing where it comes from and what sets it apart from the astrology you know.

2. Get your chart with the correct time
The Vedic chart, also called Kundli, is a snapshot of the sky at the minute you were born. The time changes the ascendant and the houses, so it is worth finding the recorded time before anything else.

3. Learn the three starting points
Ascendant, Moon sign and lunar star are the first pieces of information in the Vedic chart. In the Vedic tradition, the Moon plays a central role.
4. Learn the planets and the houses
The planets show the forces at play. The houses show the areas of life where they act.
5. Understand the time cycles
What makes Vedic astrology predictive is the planetary periods. The most used is the Vimshottari, a 120-year cycle divided among the nine planets. At each moment of life you are in a major period and in a phase within it.
6. Get to know the KP method
KP was created by K. S. Krishnamurti in the 20th century. It starts from the Vedic base and divides each star into smaller parts to answer whether a subject has a path in the chart and when it tends to happen. It is the method Vedik uses.
From study to your question
Studying the theory helps, but the best exercise is looking at your own chart with a concrete question: work, relationship, money or a move. At Vedik, its own engine calculates your chart from the position of the planets at the minute of birth, and the reading shows the major period and the phase you are in, in plain language. The last word is always yours.
